This seminar will explore how local biotech partnerships help identify, develop, and retain scientific talent across every stage of a career — from internships and early research experience, through advanced training, to faculty-industry collaboration. Panelists will share personal journeys and highlight existing programs and mechanisms for getting involved, offering attendees concrete pathways for engaging with industry.
Developing and Harnessing Local Talent — Discussions will focus on the different "entry points" into biotech (internship/undergraduate, post-graduate training, and faculty-level engagement), and how regional partnerships and licensing collaborations help drive innovation by growing local talent.

Perspectives in STEM is a cross-institution collaboration (SRTI, Skaggs Graduate School, UC San Diego, SDSU, and Johnson & Johnson) that designs high-impact networking and quarterly seminar experiences connecting students, trainees, faculty, clinicians, and industry leaders since 2024. We spotlight inclusive science, accelerate career pathways, and build durable partnerships across academia, health systems and industry through structured networking occasions and practitioner seminar panels that convert ideas into opportunities.
